Brandywine is located in southern Prince George’s County, Maryland. Situated between the Potomac and the Patuxent Rivers, this historic town offers direct access to major shopping malls, large state parks and historical sites.

Brandywine is restricted to Cedarville Road to the south, Route 301 to the west, the railroad tracks to the east, and Cheltenham Wildlife Management Area to the north. Rosaryville is immediately beyond Cheltenham to the north and Marlton also sits close to the northeast. Danville and later Piscataway are to the west and Waldorf is to the south. The town is uniquely positioned between the Potomac River and the Patuxent River, while some neighborhoods within reach are Clinton, Fort Washington, Croom, Accokeek and Baden.

There are some major stores and restaurants located in Brandywine, with most of them situated along Route 301. Stores like Costco, Target, Safeway and Regency Furniture are just some examples. One of Brandywine residents’ favorite spots to eat out is Bonefish Grill. This contemporary restaurant is a famous grill chain offering a seafood-centric menu, plus some delicious steaks and famous cocktails, like the pomegranate martini. Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen is a family-friendly spot that serves up American comfort food with a Texas twist. Across from Cheddar’s is Xscape Theater, showing all of the latest Hollywood blockbusters.

Nearby, St. Charles Towne Center, Charles County Plaza and the Shops at Waldorf provide two movie theatres and a Chuck E. Cheese’s for entertainment. Some major name-brand stores found here include BJ’s Wholesale Club, Best Buy, TJ Maxx, Toys ‘R’ Us, DSW, Macy’s, Kohl’s and more. Residents who’ve worked up an appetite shopping often head to Sakura Japanese Steak and Seafood House. This chain teppanyaki grill serves steaks and seafood dishes, plus a sushi bar.

Enjoying the Great Outdoors in Brandywine

The Brandywine Recreation Area features amenities like hiking trails, picnic areas, guided tours of the area with historical information, a visitor center and canoeing. Cheltenham Acres Recreation Area is also nearby and offers similar amenities.

Cedarville State Forest sits just south of Brandywine on Bee Oak Road, and is a wonderful state park. This 3,500-acre, wooded park features a large swamp, and offers wildlife viewing, camping, fishing and bike riding trails. The forest is a protected area and offers campsites, recreation areas and hunting land. This area is also historic as the Piscataway Indian Tribe made this section of southern Maryland its winter camping ground because of the mild climate and abundance of game. Other nearby parks include Piscataway Creek Stream Valley Park and Western Regional Park.

Transportation Around Brandywine

Bisecting the town are Route 5 and Route 31. If you drive northbound on Route 5, it will lead you to Clinton, where I-495 is soon accessible. From there, drivers can reach major destinations such as Alexandria, Largo, Silver Spring and Washington, DC. Route 301 travels more towards the northeast and is a direct shot to Rosaryville, Marlton and Upper Marlboro. Driving southbound on this route will take you to Waldorf, where many residents enjoy going out for good food and entertainment. Routes 381, 373 and 228 are some other major roads in Brandywine.
